Impact, relevance, applications

Amphibians are excellent model organisms for evolutionary studies. The present study will integrate a wide range of tools and methods made available lately in an effort to understand past and present changes in distribution range, and make reliable predictions for the future. The study will allow understanding on how the complex interactions among competition, predation, and the uncertainty in the length of the time ponds retain water regulate population density and the fitness of individuals.

Outputs

  1. Understand what limits their present range (i.e. climate, biotic interactions, competition for resources, geographic barriers), and develop SDMs that will predict their range shifts under different climate scenarios.
  2. Propose better management practices to improve their conservation status. (Specifically tailored Action plan).
  3. Compare their present life history based on past trajectories and evolutionary trade-offs and estimate their ecological success.
